| Marine environmental database (IDOD) |
IDOD (Integrated & Dynamical Oceanographic Data Management) is an information system developed to store, retrieve and process oceanographic data. The database stores physical, chemical and biological data measured in water, air, biota and sediment of the North Sea. Some examples are temperature, salinity and nutrients in seawater, heavy metals in sediment, PCBs in cod. The data are measured by MUMM and other research teams in the framework of monitoring and research programmes sponsored by Belgian and international authorities. The public data can be requested and downloaded via the web. Besides the presentation of the request results on a map, some other spatial analyses are available online.
As the IDOD database is an important programme for the Belgian Marine Data Centre, it is continuously fed with new and historical data.

| Marine species database for Eastern Africa |
MASDEA is a biogeographic/taxonomic database of marine species in the Western Indian Ocean/East Africa. The database was created to enter all species records from the western Indian Ocean published in peer-refereed publications. The database serves as a species register for the region, and a road map to the scientific literature relevant to biogeographical studies in the region. The database was originally developed by the RECOSCIX-WIO project in Mombasa, and now maintained as a collaborative venture between the Kenya Marine and Fisheries Research Institute and VLIZ. The database is hosted on the site of VLIZ.
On 12 December 2001, the database contained information on 17,421 taxa in 1347 families, 38,877 distribution records extracted from 697 publications.

The Monitoring Network Flemish Banks (Meetnet Vlaamse Banken) was set up for the acquisition of real-time oceanographical and meteorological data along the Belgian coast and on the Belgian continental shelf. The oceanographic parameters monitored a rewaves, tidal height, current and water temperature; meteorological parameters are wind, air pressure, air temperature and rainfall. The Network is sponsored by the government of Flanders, and set up and maintained by the Waterways and Marine Affairs Administration (Administratie Leefmilieu en Infrastructuur, Afdeling Waterwegen en Zeewezen: AWK).
VLIZ has been invited by AWK to make data resulting from the Monitoring Network available to third parties. The most recent values of the Network are available on-line through the VLIZ web site, as are details on the measurements and locations, and conditions to access other data from the Network.
